I was born in the end of the Korean War that took place in 1950. In the aftermath of the war, there was scarcely anything to eat.
I remember being so hungry, that at times I ate grass-roots and tree barks..
Even in this difficult life after the Korean war, our family found a place of refuge, against possible despair.
Our parents converted to the Methodist church. The reasons for the conversion included the peace of the gospel, but also the food aid and the relief supplies that came through the Methodist Church from the other countries.
Airplanes dropped foods and relief supplies by parachute off the plane in the vicinity of the Methodist church.
In my childhood, I often avoided hunger because of the powder milk and corn powder they gave. I avoided being cold because of the old clothes they sent.
The clothes we received were far too big, especially for children, but it was warm.
This is how I grew up. The little boy who received the food aid, has grown and became a man.
The warm but dim light felt through the Methodist church now burns within me as a sure and ever bright light, having come into and knowing the true, restored gospel.
When I first met the missionaries, I read the Bible only and I didn’t even look at the Book of Mormon because I was taught that the book is of the devil. I worried that the book might place me under the influence of the devil.
I now testify that the Book of Mormon that I criticized in my youth as a book of Satan, is the true word of God.
I know that this is indeed is another testament of Christ. In addition to the Bible, this book testifies that Jesus Christ is our savior.
